David Harding wrote: The magnet was designed and built for the Electron Cooling Ring, a machine that was built in the early 1980's and subsequently decommissioned. The magnet MIGHT be used in the Recycler, and has been considered for any of a number of other uses. There are currently two of them in the Accumulator. I'd say Electron Cooling Ring. I don't have an assembly drawing number, but I'd guess that it was a Beams Division project. Several of these magnets were loaned to Argonne, who painted them and (I think) added some support structures. -Dave Accelerator System was Electron Cooling Ring changed to MiniBoone per Denny Gaw 8/4/00.

We have a variant on the 200-turn switchyard bump magnets that has a 4" gap and only 120 turns. The drawing is ME-225309, though it is not immediately obvious from the drawing that the coils are wired in parallel. I hearby designate this assembly drawing to be series EDTC. If we run into a series wired magnet, we'll give it a different designation. The length is 40". The gap is 4". Aperture width is about 5". The inflector is a self-shielding truncated cosine theta magnet designed to have minimal impact to external fields. In operation, it produces a 1.45 T field, cancelling the main magnet field without disruption. In order to even further reduce the impact of operating the inflector, it has an additional multilayer NbTi superconducting magnetic shield, designed to trap the storage ring flux in an undisturbed state. 25" Horizontal Tevatron Quadrupole. Submitted by Ray Hanft on 4 Dec '00. The initial design of the six "straight sections" in the Tevatron was done by the physicist Tom Collins, and the special quadrupoles needed became known as "Collins' quads". These all are very similar in construction to the "arc" quadrupoles in the TQ series except that they are of different lengths. All the specialized quadrupoles are named using the following convention: PLLNNX: P indicates the orientation of the beam position monitor V - Vertical H - Horizontal N - None present B - Both vertical and horizontal (no Collins quad is a B type, but some low-beta quads are) LL indicates the magnetic length in inches NN is a serial number X indicates how the magnet is bussed, F for horizontal focussing, D for horizontal defocusing. The various kinds of Collins quads are H25, V25, H32, V32, H82, H90, N99.

The SDFB is a 6-3-120 dipole refurbished and modified for use in the MiniBooNE and NuMI beam lines. Modifications to the original 6-3-120 design (of which there are two versions with quite different bus work) include replacing the brazed copper water manifold with a welded stainless steel manifold, milling 0.030 inch from the inside of the back legs to allow a better fit of the coil, painting the coils and cores with epoxy for water resistance, adding a layer of KAPTON between the coil and core for improved insulation, and adding support and alignment pads to all four sides of the magnet.

We own two H-1 spools; one is in IB#2 where you can view it. The "-1" notation is an abomination, but that's what was used, down to the ID plate on the device. The H-1 performs the function of a "regular" H-spool at the point of fixed target extraction. Because of cramped quarters, its power leads are offset from the body of the spool to allow room for an extraction magnet between them! So "regular" H-spools and the H-1 variety are not interchangeable. You will be amused to know that the fact that the extraction H-spool was physically different than the regular H-spool was lost during the 1980's and rediscovered sometime around 1990! This is somehat similar to the situation with the extraction 99" quad, which special character was lost in the 1980's and only rediscovered a few weeks ago!
